If you are a music lover, or an Elvis Presley fan, you might be interested in a book co-wriiten by my friend Dan Griffin that is going to be released this summer: The Blue Moon Boys: The Story of Elvis Presley's Band
Brian Setzer, of the Brian Setzer Orchestra and former member of the Stray Cats, wrote the foreward. Dan is currently editing the film that goes with the book, and hopes to be showing it at film festivals around the country.
Dan has produced two Elvis-related movies, All The King's Men and 200 Cadillacs. The soundtrack to 200 Cadillacs has cover versions of Elvis songs. One of my favorite is All Shook Up by The Cucumbers. I got to see them perform it live a few years ago when Dan was working as their road manager.
Dan is currently working on a few other projects. One is bringing John Cale and John Bryant to the 2006 Sidewalk Film Festival
to provide mentoring on film soundtracks. He's also trying to recruit artists for a "live jam" cd during Sidewalk 2006 at Workplay, featuring British musicians Alvin Lee of Ten Years After, Colin Blunstone of The Zombies, Gary Brooker of Procol Harum, Steve Winwood of Traffic, and Jack Bruce of Cream. The idea came from a similar project during the 1970's by Stax Records where 50's and 60's singers like Jerry Lee Lewis and Chuck Berry went to England to record live albums. Also in the works is a documentary about the dismantling of our local steel plant. My husband will be helping with that film!
